Our Story

Hey there! I’m Angus, the founder of Tassie Garden Maintenance (TGM Launceston).

My journey into the gardening industry started back in 2018, when I was just a young kid with a big idea and a strong desire to build something of my own. Like most first business ideas, it started with more ambition than experience. Back then, the business was originally called Guswood’s Garden Maintenance which, looking back now, definitely was not my strongest branding decision 😂 but every business has to start somewhere.

Even though the name missed the mark, the passion was there from day one. I started by putting together a small Facebook page and trying to pick up whatever work I could. At that stage, I was still learning and gaining experience, so any work that came through was often completed alongside my dad through his business. This became my training ground. It was where I learned the basics of proper garden maintenance, customer service, work ethic, reliability, and what it actually takes to run a service-based business. Those early days taught me lessons that still shape how I operate today.

As I gained more confidence and experience, I realised the business needed a stronger identity and a clearer vision. That’s when Tassie Garden Maintenance was born. The rebrand marked a turning point. It stopped being just a side idea and started becoming something with real long-term potential.

By 2020, I made the decision to go all in and run the business full-time. It was exciting, challenging, and one of the biggest learning curves of my life. Running your own business teaches you things very quickly. You learn how to problem solve, manage clients, price work properly, stay motivated through quiet periods, and keep showing up even when things don’t go to plan.

After some time, life took me in a different direction and I stepped away from the business to pursue a career in real estate. I wanted to challenge myself in a different industry, build new skills, and gain broader business experience. Not long after that, I also made the decision to move overseas. That chapter of life taught me a lot about people, business, resilience, and perspective. Sometimes stepping away from something helps you realise how much you actually love it.

In early 2024, I returned home to Tasmania with a fresh mindset, new life experience, and a stronger vision than ever before. I re-established Tassie Garden Maintenance and committed to building something bigger, better, and more professional than what existed before.

Since then, growth has been incredible. What started as a small idea from a young kid wanting to make something of himself has grown into one of Launceston’s fastest-growing garden maintenance businesses. We’ve built our reputation through hard work, consistency, honest service, and genuinely caring about the quality of what we deliver.

For us, this business is about far more than mowing lawns or tidying gardens. It’s about helping people take pride in their homes, creating outdoor spaces they enjoy, and providing a reliable service people can trust. Whether it’s regular maintenance, hedge trimming, lawn care, landscaping, or complete outdoor transformations, we approach every job with the same level of care and professionalism.

And we’re only just getting started.

The dream has always been bigger than just running a local gardening business. The long-term vision is to continue growing Tassie Garden Maintenance into something truly special, potentially expanding statewide in the future while keeping the same values that got us here in the first place.
